He encountered Chhattisgarh politics when he drastically lost his father and elder brother in Jheeram Ghati Naxal Attacks in 2013. This was the moment when he realized the virtue and value of life, his father was living for the people of Chhattisgarh. And then, He decided to come into politics to serve the people of his father’s constituency. He filled nomination for 2013 election with a clear agenda of serving the constituency, which was his father Shaheed Nand Kumar Patel’s Karmbhoomi. With positive energy and goodwill, Umesh Nandkumar Patel emerges as the young voice of Chhattisgarh and had served as President of Youth Congress Committee, Chhattisgarh. In 2018, he dramatically defeated his opponent and former IAS OP Choudhary in Vidhansabha elections.
